Would Traci Lords Approve?

There's a good deal of talk in the adult industry about the revised 2257 regulations - known popularly as the Traci Lords Law - and how it seeks to destroy the business under the weight of unreasonable record keeping. The proponents of the new 2257 claim that it better protects children but there's a couple problems I can see with that: actual child pornographers don't follow 2257 since they're doing something illegal to start with; and underage performers in legitimate adult entertainment (like Traci Lords) can easily come up with fake I.D. that gets past the regulations (like Traci Lords, who used a counterfeit driver's license). Which doesn't mean that underage performers should be allowed in the adult industry, but I'd say most everyone in the business is scared shitless of letting that happen again for fear of the legal consequences and resulting loss of profits.

At any rate, enforcement of the new 2257 has been placed on hold by the Free Speech Coalition. My guess is that this law will be struck down sooner or later, if only because it's such an onerous and obvious attempt to stop a multibillion dollar industry. Perhaps if more porn industry professionals attended political fundraisers, this could have been avoided in the first place.
