Sex Huts For Soccer Fans
Bringing the whole de-mystifying sex / German calculation thing to full circle, there's a news piece about the German city of Dortmund rushing to install "sex garages" in anticipation of the Soccer World Cup next year. While prostitution is legal, there's a wish to keep the transactions discrete and the arrival of up to 40,000 prostitutes for the event makes that a city planner's nightmare. Hence, these Dutch-made huts. (Wouldn't it have cooler if IG Farben made it?)
Essentially, we're discussing a parking issue. They're afraid there won't be enough parking in the established red light district and so they need to provide alternate places for sex workers and their clients.
Forty thousand. Holy crap. That's like a convention hall of prostitutes, a soccer stadium full of prostitutes. (Wouldn't it be funny if they had their own section in the stadium for the games?) The city should force them to have a license or something, like any other business. At the very least, licenses can help be a Quality Assurance tool and keep track of who's getting the proper shots to protect themselves from STDs.
My favorite line is the one at the end by a Dortmund official: "That said there will always be those who want to go behind a bush, under a bridge or into the woods."
Can't fight tradition, sometimes, can you?
