The Orbitz Gay Travel Commercial
Has anyone else seen this? It's an Orbitz commercial, the game show motif with Wink Martindale, except it uses gay males - a Miami travel agent, new boyfriends who fawn over each other - to try to find gay-friendly bookings. At first I thought I was watching a parody - like I'd tuned into Comedy Central or something - but they gave a URL for Orbitz Gay Travel and indeed it does exist.
Wow.
On the one hand, I have to admire the way Orbitz is pursuing the homosexual dollar. I mean, their money is as good as straight people's so it's a good idea to cater to their needs.
On the other hand, I don't know what to make of the mincing and feminine way the gay actors behaved. It should go without saying that not all gay men behave like that, but wouldn't it have been nice to have a very macho, Brawny-style hunk instead of three queens?
But we're talking about a commercial with Wink fucking Martindale, so we're already off the kitsch richter scale anyways.

A dollar is a dollar, after all. The question is: are the Americans -- I'll say it again, Americans -- ready to accept homosexuality as part of contemporary culture, or is it only a matter of time before that commercial is taken permanently off the air like... sensible TV shows...?
