New Bus Pass!

I love public transportation. I'm not strictly hardcore about it - I won't refuse to ride in a friend's car because I think it's bad for the environment - but I do like a few things about public transportation conceptually. First, it is better for the environment - that is, if emissions laws are tightened and enforced. Second, it helps reduce traffic, and Oahu suffers from horrible traffic at times. (Not Bay Area Route 101 traffic but New York L.I.E. traffic at least...) Third, it's a public space that encourages interaction between different kinds of people. (Been reading Barbara Ehrenreich, so I now think that's important to remain civic minded.)

Anyway, since we moved to Oahu back in September, bus passes have had monochromatic designs with the face of one member of Hawaiian royalty or another. The faces often look serious and historical, so it was interesting...

But for July, we've got a seal! Wading in the water with its big seal mouth wide open! And it's in color!

My wife and I saw this bus pass and went, "How cute!" together. It felt like a treat, for some reason.

Anyway, I'm very pleased with my new bus pass. It's something I can live with for a month and make me smile each time I look at it.

And come July 1st, I can tear off the Miyu page on my Zone calendar and... (peeks underneath)... look at Maiko for two months!

How cute!
