Judy Wodruff's Sotsugyo
What a year it's been. Iida leaves Morning Musume, then Yaguchi, then Charmy. ZONE disbands. And now, Judy Woodruff leaves CNN and Inside Politics.
It's kind of funny to see all the praise heaped on Judy by her colleagues, if only because it lets down the veil of professionalism. Bob Franken and Suzanne Malveaux horsing around was cute. Bernard Shaw has some weird moments with far-flung allusions. Bill Schneider has a nice anecdote involving Bette Davis. And while Judy was a trailblazer for women in political reportage, I'm glad we've reached a point where that doesn't have to be the main focus of tributes to her.
I can't believe they did a blooper reel, however. I mean, it's CNN - they have minor fuck-ups and incredibly odd ad-libs all the time, you come to expect it. Just like you expect the older footage to have horrible, horrible hair - another frequent topic from today's show.
I'll admit, I did tear up as they showed everyone at CNN applauding for her at the end.
That said, it would've been wonderful if they took a cue from Jpop and had Judy Woodruff in a flowery white gown descending the steps of the capitol singing in Japanese. Maybe have Candy Crowley fall at her feet crying, yelling "Gomen! Gomen!"
Or maybe it's just me.
Inside Politics will go from an hour to ninety minutes next week. I'm hoping that Candy Crowley takes over Judy's seat - she's a great correspondent and been a very strong fill-in host.
Also, I'm glad Crossfire will end - I agree with the idea that the whole left-versus-right approach is horribly misguided. I like James Carville a lot, and Bob Novak's treasonous mug oftens leads to ironic moments... But they could be better off elsewhere.
And I'm hoping Jon Stewart gets the credit for Crossfire's demise. He deserves at least part of it.
Oh, and one last thing: even if she isn't heading Inside Politics any more, Judy Woodruff is still one - hot - bitch. And always will be.
