Halo Film To Be Made

Apparently, Alex Garland wrote the script and it's been snapped up by Universal and Fox. Considering Garland wrote 28 Days Later, I'm sure there'll be a good deal of screen time for the zombie-like Flood.

... I see Tom Cruise as Master Chief. "Show me the Bungee!"

It's always annoyed me that certain critics have praised the story of the Halo games as being as good as a novel or a movie. That may be the case, but we're not talking Gravity's Rainbow or the Godfather movies - more like pulp novels and action flicks with B casts. Which in itself isn't a bad thing (Lord knows I've had more than my fill of such junk culture) but is not the elevation of the video game medium into art, something strongly implied in this rush to praise the stories of the games. On an objective level, the Splinter Cell games are better written, and that's just a bunch of sub-Tom Clancy spy thriller fluff.

Anyway, there've been Halo books and now a movie. I'm willing to bet that the movie, like the books (which I've never read but heard a little about) will extend itself well past the established plots of the games and provide some entertaining violence with a bit of drama. That's all I can expect and all I'm really asking for.

One last thing: would it be possible to make a completely live action Halo movie and have it look as good - or as realistic - as the game? If not, then wouldn't it be ironic if they used the same tools as Bungee to create CGI versions of the aliens and whatever else?
