Racist Ice Cream
Maybe it's because I don't go to Dairy Queen or particularly care for ice cream, but I never realized that MooLatte could be taken as a racist reference until I read Timothy Noah's article on Slate. Even better, Noah writes of Nogger Black, a Swedish ice cream that's making a misguided attempt to cash in on black American hip-hop culture. One wonders if they have commercials where a guy yells, "Yo! My Nogger!" when ordering this ice cream.
Noah then follows up this piece with another ice cream brought to his attention, the German Negerkuss, which translates to Negro's Kiss (this is the polite version).
I'm puzzled by the instant association of chocolate to racial blackness. Do people actually think black people taste like chocolate? Have taste tests been conducted in some bizarro Ishmael Reed alternate universe?
And where are the other flavors with other kinds of racism? How about an Asian flavor called shi shi sherbet? At least it'd be yellow for a couple of reasons.

As an addendum, I told my wife (a German citizen) about this post and she raved about how good Negerkuss tastes and that it's worth going to Germany to eat. She says once you have Negerkuss, nothing else will do.
No, I'm not making this up.
