There's One Way To Prove Clinton Wrong
In defending Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, her husband (and former President of the United States) Bill Clinton called a gay Republican campaigning against Senator Clinton's re-election "self-loathing". Arthur Finkelstein, the gay Republican in question, has worked for several politicians with clear anti-gay records. Further, members of the Republican party have spearheaded the movement to ban gay marriages on both federal and state levels.
I think the Republican Party should send a strong message to Mr. Clinton.
The party's leaders should state point blank that they welcome gay Americans in their party and will defend their rights as vigorously as any other sector of America. If that's the case, then no gay Republican - Log Cabin or otherwise - would have any doubts about how his party feels about him or how he feels about himself. He can state proudly, "The Republican party loves me for who I am and I love myself as well."
We can start with Vice President Dick Cheney making such an announcement with his lesbian daughter Mary at his side. After all, she helped run her father's campaign.
I'll be checking CNN every few minutes, waiting for this to happen.
