Dark Phoenix Saga for X-Men 3 Movie?
I'm not a big fan of the second X-Men movie - and Ian has a really good diatribe about why the movie makes no sense - but I was pleased to find out that Famke Janssen has signed on to play a resurrected Jean Grey - which means she'll be Phoenix. Which means maybe - just maybe - we'll finally see a film version of the greatest X-Men story of all time.
God Loves, Man Kills was a crap comic book and to use that as an inspiration for X-2 was a bad idea. The Dark Phoenix Saga is the definitive X-Men storyline and it's held up relatively well over the past twenty-plus years. It's the story every X-Fanboy wants to see done in a movie, it's a dramatic turning point for the team, and includes both the Hellfire Club and the Shi'Ar. It'd be an expensive film to produce but has huge amounts of intrigue, drama, and science fiction whiz-bang.
