On the Other Hand...

Okay, it'd be fun to have a PSP. But there aren't any launch games that I must play - maybe when a version of Grand Theft Auto is released, or perhaps a solid RPG or strategy game. A non-card-based stealth game would be fun, too, though Metal Gear Ac!d leaves me cold.

And it is expensive. If I had discretionary cash, it would be better spent elsewhere - like, say, getting the new Hello! Project photo sets at Alo-Hello. Or the recent SweetS mini-album with DVD. Or Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory when it comes out next week...

And I really don't have much time for video games right now.

So why is the impulse so strong? I think it's the technophiliac impulse in me, the desire to have the newest shiny gadgets. I'm not entirely susceptible to this, but in the case of video games and portable media, I'd always like something leaner, meaner, more powerful. While playing video games is important, being able to have more options on one machine - games to play, movies to watch, music to listen to... The one thing I don't know about the PSP is if it'll play video files - MPG's and AVI's, hopefully. If it does, then it'll be must-have. If it doesn't, it'll still be must-have... but I can be more patient about it.

Because in my own little Musume World, the ideal would be to have high-resolution Jpop videos on a large portable screen with great audio. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

Sweet, sweet icing on the cake.
